Project title: Biomimetic constructs for nerve regeneration
Acronym: BICONERVE
Type: Project
Annuality: Second
TP/LS membership: TecnInn/HMNA2
Lead partner: Dipromed
Partner: Ntplast, University of Turin, Polytechnic of Turin
Status: Completed
THE PROBLEM ADDRESSED
Traumatic peripheral nerve injuries are an event of considerable clinical significance because of the high incidence and costs that the functional deficits caused by them produce in both social and economic terms. The goal is to develop an innovative medical device for neuronal regeneration following peripheral nerve injury, which is also applicable in plastic surgery, abdominal wall surgery, and uro-gynecological system surgery.
THE ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT
The developed device is a two-layer, two-component membrane capable of supporting and stimulating regeneration of total or partial peripheral nerve injuries. The presence of two layers with different composition will allow the chemical-physical and mechanical characteristics, and the biological response of the device to be adapted to the type of interface. The device will perform its action by preventing neural adhesions and at the same time, promoting tissue regeneration.
PROJECT RESULTS
The project through the implementation of a new device, will increase innovation and bring significant benefits in diseases with high “medical need”. The project will have a high market impact, as it will enable the implementation of new strategies that will bring innovation, competitiveness and success Product innovation will have international significance. SMEs will benefit from the new technology.
