Abstract: This service was the start of our journey to enhance and consolidate Intellectual Property. We started by filing an invention patent at the Italian level. The Italian filing was then extended to a European patent; in addition to the technical-legal assistance in drafting and filing the Italian patent application and its extension to a European patent, consulting was activated, again provided by the same firm, to explore the possibility of new forms of protection related to the proposed solution.

THE PROBLEM ADDRESSED
With this service we have set out on our path of enhancement, consolidation and growth, ensuring proper returns on our investments in the coming years. We started with the filing of an invention patent covering a portable electrocardiograph, that is, a handheld device for performing electrocardiograms that is easy to carry and easy to handle by both operators (physicians, paramedics, or nurses) and patients. The Italian filing, was then extended to a European patent; in addition to the technical-legal assistance in drafting and filing the patent application at the Italian level and its extension to a European patent, a consulting activity was activated, again provided by the same consulting firm, to explore the possibility of new forms of protection related to the proposed solution ( utility model).
THE ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT
The activities carried out during the course of the service were:
- documentation study and patentability evaluation preparation of Italian-level patent application, drawings, preparation of forms and filing
- translation of claims into English analysis of alternative forms of protection ( utility model)
- analysis of the evaluation report of the ministry of economic development released on 14/08/2013
- preparation of the application for European extension of the Italian patent and its filing occurred on 03/09/2013
PROJECT RESULTS
The results of the service, as a whole, were:
- technical and legal assistance activities on obtaining and extending patenting;
- drafting and filing of an Italian patent application and its extension as a European patent application;
- counseling for evaluation of possible alternative forms of protection.
