The Italian patent of “Minimally Invasive Banderella for the Surgical Treatment of Female Stress Urinary Incontinence” has been filed nationally and a PCT application has been made. The goals of the PIPLUS service were to receive the International Search Report, with subsequent patent amendment activities in order to overcome examiners’ objections, and then move on to enter the national filing stages in various states.

THE PROBLEM ADDRESSED
Herniamesh began as a manufacturer of nets for the treatment of abdominal wall defects to which a whole series of products designed to treat problems related to urinary incontinence and pelvic floor defects have been added since 2002. However, the company’s sales to date are still heavily skewed toward the herniary line, which holds nearly 80 percent. Patients with urogynecological conditions are becoming increasingly aware that the opportunities made available to them by innovative surgical techniques can lead to a significant improvement in their quality of life, empowering them to regain their previously lost social activities. With this in mind, the urogynecological prosthesis market is of strategic importance, and Herniamesh wants to become a major player in it, investing both in training to the sales network, organizing workshops where the surgical technique of T-Sling Plus is presented, and protecting the product with international patents.
THE ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT
Once the International Research Report was received, the basic PCT text was adapted for international extension to overcome the objections raised. Patent extension work has been completed in the following countries-China, Brazil, South Korea, the USA, European Patent, all those planned except Japan, per the company’s wishes. Achievements and Exploitation of Results (Max 20 lines) Obtaining patent extension in China, South Korea, USA, Brazil, and European Patent will enable Herniamesh to be able to win tenders for the uniqueness of its proposed product and protect itself from possible plagiarism attempts.
