Who we are
The Higher Technical Institute Foundation “Biotechnology and New Life Sciences” is a non academic tertiary high education school, founded in 2016, which trains highly specialized young technicians in the fields of chemistry, bioeconomy, biotechnology, mechanical technologies and ICT applied to the medical field.
The ITS trains highly skilled technicians with the competencies needed to turn scientific discoveries into commercial products. Strong scientific foundations combined with entrepreneurial and technological transfer skills, ability to work for project groups and knowledge of the English language are therefore required.
The training offer is characterized by a practical and laboratory component, in which teaching involves alternating practical exercises, theoretical lessons, laboratory activities, visits and/or internships in companies and the development of project work.
The courses have a duration of two years (4 semesters), equal to a total of 1,800 hours including the internship, with a duration of 640 hours, which takes place in the second semester of the second year at companies of the ITS network operating in Italy and/ or abroad. They are aimed at unemployed young people and adults with a five-year upper secondary school diploma.
After successfully passing the final exam, you will receive the title of Diploma of Superior Technician issued by MIUR (V Level of the European Qualifications Framework – EQF).
What we do
The training courses are designed with companies operating in the fields of sustainable chemistry, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, biomedicine and medical devices, innovative materials and ICT technologies applied to the sector. In line with the constant technological evolution of the area of New Technologies of Life, they foresee the development of knowledge on “Industry 4.0” technologies contextualized to the reference production sector. Currently, in Colleretto Giacosa and Torino sites, the following courses are provided:
✓ Senior technician for the quality system of products and processes based on biotechnology – Industrial chemical and biotechnological productions (1st and 2nd year)
✓ Senior technician for research and development of biotechnology-based products and processes – biotech industrial applications for the circular economy, sustainability and innovative materials (1st and 2nd year)
✓ Senior technician to produce diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitation devices – Mechatronics Medical 4.0 (1st and 2nd year)
✓ Senior technician for the production of diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitation devices – Digital applications for biomedicine and biotechnology – Life Sciences 4.0 (1st and 2nd year)
✓ Senior technician for the quality system of products and processes based on biotechnology – technical-commercial management and customization of products in the chemical, biotechnological and biomedical industry (Product & Sales Specialist – new start course for the first time in 2023 – 1st year is ongoing) . For the academic year 2024-26 we are planning to activate at least one additional course on the site of Colleretto Giacosa, corresponding to one of the following profiles:
✓ Senior Technician for research and development of biotechnological and chemical-industrial products and processes – Formulation of chemical-industrial preparations
✓ Senior technician for the management and maintenance of chemical, biochemical, chemical pharmaceutical and biotechnology plants – Management of chemical and biotechnological industrial plants
In addition to the courses, the Foundation receives funding from the ERASMUS+ Programme for student mobility and its staff.
