THE PROJECT.

SAFE-N-MEDTECH is a project funded by the European Commission under Horizon 2020 (GA 814607); it is an Innovation Action, aimed at supporting the creation of so-called “Innovation Test Beds,” for safety verification of medical devices.

GOAL

The goal is to provide a wide range of technical, clinical, legal, and support services to companies and institutions that want to further develop and bring to market their nanotechnology-based expertise.

The project aims to create an innovative, distributed, open-access platform that can provide companies and research centers with the capabilities, skills, know-how, network, and all necessary services For the development, testing, evaluation, industrialization commercial exploitation of nanotechnology-based medical and diagnostic devices.

For some years now, in fact, medical devices based on nanotechnology have been being developed for virtually every medical field, with increasing importance in the areas of cancer care, regenerative medicine, advanced therapies, neurology, cardiology, orthopedics, and dentistry.

While any innovation in the medical field must be carefully evaluated not only from a safety standpoint but also in terms of cost-effectiveness, nanotechnology-based medical devices require special attention, both because of their complexity and because their evaluations from a technological standpoint are still ongoing.

AN INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIP FOR RAPID MARKET ACCESS

Safe-n-Medtech, therefore, brings together within a single platform the expertise of 28 international partners from around the world, according to a multi-disciplinary, market-oriented approach based on a deep knowledge and understanding of the characteristics and properties of nano-materials, how they can be used in advanced medical devices, and all other safety-related aspects (e.g., electrical compatibility, electromagnetic properties, etc.).

The development and implementation of the platform will speed up market access for nanotechnology-based medical technologies.
